Biographical history
Thomas Nevin was born in Port Rush or Port Stewart in Northern Ireland in 1848. In 1852, Nevin's family immigrated to Canada and, in 1857, settled near Seaforth, Ontario. In 1879, the family came to Winnipeg and set up homesteads and pre-emptions. Thomas Nevin married in 1885 and received title to his land in 1889. The Nevins had five children, four boys and a girl. It is not known when Thomas Nevin passed away.
Custodial history
The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections by Russ Green, Executor of the Nevin estate, via Ann MacVicar of the Manitoba Historical Society's Centennial Farm Award Program, in 1997.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of an original land patent, dated May 22, 1889, granting Thomas Nevin a quarter section of land (160 acres) in Township 11 of Manitoba. The fonds also contains an excerpt from an unknown book detailing the Nevin family history.
