Histoire administrative

Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) is an all-male fraternity first established in 1899 in Illinois which quickly spread across the United States and Canada. It is currently one of the largest fraternities in North America. Although many fraternities developed bad reputations the “Tekes” were known for their non-discriminatory membership and solid personal qualities. The University of Manitoba chapter of the TKE was established in 1958. By the 1960s University of Manitoba "Tekes" had a fraternity house off campus on Balmoral Street in downtown Winnipeg. By the 1970s interest in fraternal organizations waned in Winnipeg and the chapter ceased functioning in 1979.

Portée et contenu

The fonds consists of one wood scrapbook started by Trev Percy when the University of Manitoba chapter of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity was founded in 1958 to chronicle fraternity events. The unique wooden design was created by a member who was good at woodworking and was intended to be both visually distinct and allow additional pages to be added easily. The use of the scrapbook to keep track of TKE events gradually diminished in the early 1960s.
