Susan MacWilliam was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1969, and is an artist, film-maker, and lecturer in Fine Art at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland. In 2009, she represented Northern Ireland at the Venice Biennale. She works primarily with video, photography and installation, and explores themes surrounding paranormal and supersensory phenomena, and the history of parapsychology and psychical research.

The Open Space Art Society was established in Victoria, BC, as The Greater Victoria Theatre Box Society in 1972, adopting its current name in 1977. It provides programming related to visual, performing, and literary arts. In 2004 it inaugurated a print, audio and digital resource centre in collaboration with the Vancouver Foundation, and in 2008 it created the Open Space Endowment, managed by the Victoria Foundation.

This fonds was donated to the University of Manitoba Archives and Special Collections in 2013 by the Open Space Art Society, facilitated by Walter Meyer zu Erpen (President, Survival Research Institute of Canada (SRIC)).
Portée et contenu
This collection contains materials created for and during Susan MacWilliam’s 2012 art exhibition “F-L-A-M-M-A-R-I-O-N”, curated by Doug Jarvis at the Open Space Art Society (Victoria). Textual records include promotional and commemorative materials such as handbills, media releases, reviews, and newspaper ads. The reproduction of a photograph book included is a copy of the H.A.V. Green photo album (see related materials below) that was on display. The collection also includes audiovisual recordings of a roundtable discussion held in conjunction with the exhibition on 25 September, 2012 between MacWilliam, Jarvis, Walter Meyer zu Erpen, and Walter Falk.
