Biographical history
Stanley Krippner was born on 4 October 1932 in Edgerton, Wisconsin. He received a B.Sc. in Speech Therapy from the University of Wisconsin (1954), an M.A. in Counseling and Guidance from Northwestern University (1957), and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Northwestern University (1961), specializing in the areas of consciousness, dreams, hypnosis, and other parapsychological phenomena. In his early career, he was director of the Kent State University Child Study Center from 1961-1964, and the Maimonides Medical Center Dream Research Laboratory from 1964-1973; he was also president of two divisions of the American Psychological Association (APA) in the 1980s. From 1972, Dr. Krippner has been a professor of psychology at Saybrook University, and is also currently (2015) a Fellow in four APA divisions, and a Fellow of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion; he also holds faculty appointments at the Universidade Holistica Internacional (Brasilia) and the Instituto de Medicina y Tecnologia Avanzada de la Conducta (Ciudad Juarez). He has authored, co-authored, and edited numerous presentations, workshops, articles, and books in a wide variety of languages.
Custodial history
This fonds was donated to the University of Manitoba Archives and Special Collections in 2015 and 2016 by Stanley Krippner, facilitated by Walter Meyer zu Erpen (President, Survival Research Institute of Canada (SRIC)). The book "Transcomunicação: O fenômeno magenta" was purchased new by SRIC and donated to UMASC in early 2016.
Scope and content
This fonds comprises materials associated with Dr. Stanley Krippner’s study of the Brazilian “sensitive” Amyr Amiden. It includes a PowerPoint presentation (both in analog (annotated) and digital formats), academic publications, and “apports” (physical objects). The second accession contains apports and a leather pouch Krippner received from shaman Grandmother Fawn Journeyhawk.
