Biographical history

Robert Arnold Wardle was born to Robert and Mary Ellen Wardle in November 1890 in Clifton, England. He graduated with a B.Sc (honours) in Zoology from Manchester University. In 1928, he became the Head of the Department of Zoology at the University of Manitoba. He authored and co-authored books, supervised over 30 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students, and made many more contributions. He retired from the University of Manitoba in 1958 as a Professor Emeritus. He also established a Zoology Department at the University of Winnipeg, then retired again in 1962. He passed away in January 1974.

Custodial history

The fonds was donated to University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collectionsby the the Canadian War Museum in 1988.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of one diary from a research trip to Sudan and Egypt in 1925, one scrapbook containing newspaper clippings, pamphlets and excerpts, a published biography of Robert Wardle, and a handwritten account of the genealogy of the Wardle family.
