History
The Ombudsman's Office was originally established by the Board of Governors in 1981 as an independent office to act on on behalf of students, faculty, support staff, and administrators in matters dealing with violation of University policy, personnel relations, or matters not in the purview of Equity Services, Student Advocacy Offices, or covered by collective agreements.
The Ombudsman reported to the President of the University, but operated independently of administrative authorities. For matters involving the President, the Ombudsman reported directly to the Board of Governors.
The Ombudsman's Office was closed on June 30th, 2010.

Functions, occupations and activities
The Ombudsman was responsible for investigating or facilitating the investigation of any grievances relating to students, former students, or those who have applied to become students, that may arise against the University or against anyone in the University exercising authority. The Ombudsman also served as a general information centre for students and those who have applied to become students about their rights and responsibilities, and of what procedures to follow in order to pursue whatever business or complaint they may have. The Ombudsman was also responsible for bringing findings and recommendations to the attention of those in authority and to the University community at large.
