Notice biographique

Reverend Mary Cecilia Hietanen was born on 23 January 1923 in Birkenhead, England. She came to Canada in 1953 and joined the Vancouver Psychic Society in 1972, eventually becoming president. In the spring of 1981, along with close friend and mentor David Young and his companion Gwyn Lewis as organist, she founded the Spiritualist Church of Universal Brotherhood (UBSC) in New Westminster, British Columbia, and was ordained by the International Spiritualist Alliance in 1982. Subsequently, she was the minister at UBSC and filled a variety of administrative positions there including board member and president, until her death in 2009 in Surrey, British Columbia.

Éléments associés

This fonds is closely related to the David Patrick Young fonds. It is also one of a series of fonds and collections transferred to the Archives by Walter Meyer zu Erpen, President of the Survival Research Institute of Canada. It is related to the various other Psychical Research and Spiritualist Collections that the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections has attracted since it acquired the Hamilton Family fonds (MSS 14). It is especially closely related to the David Patrick Young fonds (MSS 449), as the creator of that fonds is the subject of this one.
