Biographical history
Thordarson began his career as a photojournalist at the Winnipeg Tribune, working after 1980 for The Hamilton Spectator and The Winnipeg Sun, and then moved, in 1989, to the Winnipeg Free Press, where he ended his career as the head of Design and Graphics. During the 1970s he took many iconic sports photographs, including some of the Winnipeg Jets championship teams in 1978 and 1979.

The fonds was donated to the University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections on 1 October 2014.
Scope and content
The fonds consist of approximately 5,110 negatives (3 per strip) taken by Jon Thordarson during his time as a photographer for the Winnipeg Tribune. The negatives document the Winnipeg Jets hockey team from 1974 to 1980. Almost all the negatives involve hockey and majority of those include the Jets.
Box 1 contains 55 envelopes containing approximately 1870 negatives.
Box 2 contains 108 envelopes containing approximately 3240 negatives.
