The fonds consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, personal journals, education material, teaching material including visually impaired material, drafts of articles and manuscripts, published articles, photographs, ephemera, unpublished fiction and non-fiction including plays, book reviews, poetry, material regarding the senior citizen's writing group, Terry King, Foster Parent's Plan, the Assiniboine Slopes Ecological Reserve, and patient rights. Included are several copies of her published books and anthologies in which she was published. The fonds also consists of biographical information about Barton's family members, correspondence from the family between 1951 and 1997, handwritten notes and excerpts from manuscripts, and reviews and correspondence regarding her book "A Slice of Life."

The majority of this fonds came from the papers of the late Rev. Ruth Ann Dyke, who had received many of them in her official capacities in connection with Toronto's Springdale Church and with Springdale Park Spiritual Association (SPSA). It includes official corporate and other records of the SPSA, as well as correspondence with and writings of her teacher, Spiritualist minister William C. Partridge, and collected newspaper clippings about various Spiritualist topics.

It contains working files of the Manitoba branch of the Canadian Public Relations Society. These include: By-Laws and Regulations; Manitoba executive meeting minutes from 1976-1993; annual general meeting minutes and reports from 1973-1993; financial statements; correspondence; job descriptions; records on educational programs and accreditation procedures; membership lists, surveys and correspondence; society newsletters and publicity materials; and records from several national CPRS events held in Manitoba including the "Progress '70" Conference. The photograph collection (PC116) contains an extensive pictorial record of the "Progress '70" Conference as well as photos of a number of other official functions.
