Other dignitaries found in the photos include Lord Arthur James Balfour, British Foreign Secretary; Viscount Allenby; and Sir Herbert Samuel.

The papers consist of: 1/Cohnstaedt family documents, including copies of birth, marriage and death certificates; fragments of family correspondence; a diary/photo album, ca. 1927; family trees; xerox copies of newspaper clippings on the family’s history; and a large number of German-language librettos and booklets on opera. 2/ Correspondence, grant applications, reading lists, research notes, newspaper issues and clippings, and a book manuscript produced by Wilhelm Cohnstaedt (1880-1937), senior editor of the Frankfurter Zeitung, during his final sojourn in the United States (1933-1937). And, above all, 3/ the personal documents, correspondence, student papers and doctoral dissertation, petition for naturalization, scholarly research papers and reports, and documents concerning community development work and disputes with the University of Regina produced by Martin Cohnstaedt (1917-2002), a professor of sociology at several colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

A2014-004 contains materials concerning two dimensions of Sylvia Todaschuk’s career: 1/ her participation in various Winnipeg-based Ukrainian-Canadian community organizations (the Ukrainian Canadian Committee/Congress, 1980-2010) and events (the Folklorama Kiev Pavilion (1976-84), Ukrainian Week (1979-80), the Ukrainian-Canadian Centennial Committee (1990-1992) and 2/ her participation, primarily as a board member, in various mainstream cultural and business organizations (the Folk Arts Council of Winnipeg, Inc., the Citizenship Council of Manitoba, Selkirk Avenue Business Association/Selkirk Avenue Business Improvement Zone [SABA/SABiz], Winnipeg Business Improvement Zone Association [Winnipeg B.I.Z.], and the North End Community Renewal Corporation [NECRC]. In addition to printed matter (programs, proceedings, annual reports, bulletins and newsletters) the collection includes the correspondence, auditors’ reports and the minutes of meetings attended by Sylvia Todaschuk in her capacity as an organizer and/or board member of these organizations. Scrapbooks, posters, brochures, audio tapes, a VHS tape and historical research material compiled by summer students working on the Selkirk Avenue “Walking Tours” of the late 1980s-1990s are also included.

Pan American Games Society (1967) Fonds

The 1967 Pan American Society collection contains a remarkably complete record of the administrative working papers of the Society from 1963 to 1970. These are primarily the legal, financial, and committee papers preparatory to the actual start of the Games in July 1967. It is an excellent administrative record of the minutes, correspondence, legal agreements and contracts respecting facilities, staffing, publicity, and funding for staging the Games. A very few post-games papers reflect on the Society and its eventual dissolution in 1970.

Not included here are records of the games themselves, i.e. the day-by-day chronicle and description of athletic performances. However, the motion pictures include two detailed commentaries on film of the Collection. Furthermore there is a valuable oral tape recording about the Games by Bob Picken.

Steve Snyder (Guy Maddin) Fonds

A2001-035 consists of a copy of the film Archangel as well as the log books and continuity books for Careful given to Mr. Snyder by director, Guy Maddin, and producer, Greg Klymkiw. The log books detail every aspect of the shoot and were integral to Mr. Snyder's work as diarist on the film. There is also a draft of a script that Mr. Maddin wrote on teen pregnancy and a script draft by Paul Donovan.

A2004-109 includes letters written to both Steve Snyder and Guy Maddin, pages from a diary Mr. Snyder kept while on the set of Heart of the World , a treatment for Cowards Bend the Knee , and articles and reviews of Mr. Maddin's work. There are 55 photographs, mainly taken by Mr. Snyder on the sets of Mr. Maddin's films. There are also 73 videocassettes with footage from the filming of Dracula , The Saddest Music in the World , and other recent films by, or featuring, Guy Maddin. Two audio cassettes are also included in this accession.

A2008-028, A2009-063 consists of original artwork from Maddin, published articles, photographs, scripts written by other people, and correspondence including emails to and from Maddin. It also contains audio-visual material including films made by people other than Maddin as well as artifacts from one of the films.

The fonds contains a variety of records that relate to student life at the University of Manitoba. The first series of class notes contains several notebooks and loose notes that belonged to Josephine, Evelyn, and Arthur Riley. The notes are arranged alphabetically according to subject. The second series of evaluations includes official Department of Education and University of Manitoba exam questions, written assignments, and grade summaries. The third series of receipts includes receipts for food, medical and dental fees, utilities and household expenses, and miscellaneous materials. The fourth series of published materials contains various publications which are arranged first by type and then, where applicable, by date or author. Series five, entitled other textual records, contains a miscellaneous assortment of items which could not be logically incorporated into the other series. The sixth series of photographs and oversize items contains photographs of various subjects and oversized items.

A1998-035 consists of six series. The first series is Correspondence. This is further separated into professional and personal. The professional correspondence generally deals with the publication of McCracken's work, job applications, and grant information. There are also letters from several notable people including: Margaret Laurence, Eric Wilson, Timothy Findley, Peter C. Newman, Brian Mulroney, and David Suzuki. The personal correspondence includes letters from her father, brother and mother, and her friends: Sarah Yates-Howorth, David, Heather Robertson (see MSS 77), Joy Tataryn, and Myfwany Philips. As well, there is extensive correspondence with poet Coney Burns during the 1970s and 1980s, including samples of his poetry. The second series involves McCracken's Literary Career. It is divided into research, drafts, and published materials. There are newspaper clippings and book reviews regarding her literary work. As well, there is a small section of published work by other authors. The third series regards the years that McCracken worked at Manitoba Energy and Mines. This includes performance appraisals from 1986 and 1988, as well as speeches and other material that she produced during her years there. The fourth series has material from various Organizations that she was or is involved with. This organizations include The Writers' Union of Canada, Re:Visions, St. Norbert Arts and Cultural Centre, the Payment for Public Use/Book Committee, The Status of Women Writers Committee, the Manitoba Arts Council, the Manitoba Writers' Guild, Women and Words, the Manitoba Film Board, and The Canada Council. The fifth series contains material from McCracken's Academic Career. This includes a University of Manitoba transcript, English notes from Red River Community College, and material from Writers Who Teach Writing Roundtable 1997, and Artists in the School 1997. The final series is Miscellaneous. This includes ephemera from 1969, including tickets to see a newly formed band, Led Zepplin, as well as a receipt from a John Lennon/Yoko Ono concert in Toronto. There are also several folders of personal writings that include information on love, pregnancy, adoption, unemployment, and her college course, as well as other notes. These personal writings are considered confidential. There is also a Photograph Collection (PC 147) consisting of 69 photographs, and a Tape Collection (TC 93) consisting of 18 audio tapes and 1 record.

Berenice Sisler fonds

The fonds consists of one series. The series is based on research material acquired by Berenice Sisler that relates to family law and related issues. This research was used in her book, A Partnership of Equals: The Struggle for the Reform of Family Law in Manitoba . The series is organized into three subseries. The first is material concerning family law and related issues. It encompasses the years prior to 1970 and up to and including 1996. The second subseries is material regarding the Anderson-Axworthy Affair. It begins with a summary written by Ms. Sisler in 1997 that documents the affair and her role in it. The documents regarding the affair include the years 1980 to 1984. The final subseries consists of various publications used by Sisler in her research. They consist mainly of government and special interest groups reports regarding the status of women in Canada. Included in the publications section is Sisler's book, A Partnership of Equals: The Struggle for the Reform of Family Law in Manitoba . The publications span the years 1968 to 1996.

The North-West Line Elevators Association origins can be traced back to 1899. The fonds contain the minutes of the original Board of Directors as well as a detailed sampling of Directors' minutes & memoranda up until the early 1970s. The collection is divided into four categories. The corporate records contain Directors' minutes, Executive Committee minutes, annual reports & the Public Relations Department records. The financial records contain auditors' reports, balance sheets, stock ledgers, tax returns, budgets, shareholders' information & Grains Claim Bureau assessments. The legal records cover demurrage action, court cases, agreements & contracts as well as Royal Commission on Box Car Distribution reports from the mid 1950s & Royal Commission on Transportation reports from the early 1960s. The operational records contain company correspondence, tariff information, Canada Grains Council reports & Canada Wheat Board reports, articles & pamphlets as well as lists of grain elevators. The fonds provide a nice cross section of the Association from its inception until the mid 1970s.

The Public Markets Ltd. collection spans the existence of the company from 1912-1989. The collection now comprises 21 linear feet. This fonds offers a unique reference source to the agricultural history of the prairie west. The records contain detailed information on livestock transportation & sales, collective bargaining agreements, labour grievances & arbitration as well as environmental concerns in dealing with waste disposal.

The fonds consists of Neville's papers as city councillor including correspondence and reports of the various committees on which he served. Committee reports include the Historical Buildings Committee and the Winnipeg Library Committee reports. Neville chaired the Committee on Environment and also sat on the Committee on Recreation and Social Services, the Committee on Protection, Parks and Culture and various ad hoc committees dealing with Access to Information, Public Libraries and the General Government By-law. Also included are papers relating to the Manitoba Heritage Council, the Historic Sites and Monuments Board, and miscellaneous writings, speeches, and manuscripts/drafts of columns. The collection also includes Neville's university papers as assistant to the President of the University of Manitoba.

The 2005 accessions are divided into six series: biographical material, correspondence, articles and writings, organizations and conferences, other interests and issues, and photographs. The 2006 accession contains Neville’s extensive correspondence, samples of his writings in completed published and handwritten draft form, and a large amount of information related to causes he was involved in and people he was friends or with whom he wasacquainted. This accession strongly emphasizes his work as a city councilor, executive assistant and political science instructor, as well as samples of the many newspaper columns and speeches he has written or presented between 1970 and 2006.

The 2009 accession is divided into twelve series: biographical material and awards, speeches, citations and commentaries, articles and book chapters, Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, Manitoba Heritage Council, Heritage Winnipeg, City of Winnipeg, Winnipeg Public Library, correspondence, academic material, Meech Lake Accord research, and research material.

The photograph collection consists of 31 photographs, 10 slides, and 1 videocassette. The tape collection consists of 5 audio reels.

Neville, William

Jack Burnett Murta fonds

The collection covers the political career of J.B. Murta from his first election to the House of Commons in 1970. One major focus of interest is the material relating to the Canadian grain industry, with its associated transportation problems. A second focus of interest is the correspondence with constituents and others on a range of issues. There is some information on Party organization and politics, including the leadership conventions of 1976 and 1983.

Not included here are the personal diaries of Mr. Murta which he has retained in his own possession for the foreseeable future.

This collection contains most of Sol Sinclair's papers, which were written for public use between 1945 and 1975. Many of his handwritten drafts, notes, research materials and statistical data are also included. The collection's main emphasis is on the papers, essays and articles researched and written by Dr. Sinclair.

Correspondence relating to Dr. Sinclair's professional activities is also included. The majority of the correspondence relates to his duties with the University of Manitoba, other institutions, and government committees.

Dr. Sinclair's role in the development of Agricultural Economics at the University of Manitoba and his contribution to Canadian agriculture and fisheries is well documented in this collection.
