June Dutka fonds

The fonds consists of records relating to Dutka’s career at the University of Manitoba Libraries, her publications, records relating to her community involvement, records she collected about community members (including obituaries of University of Manitoba staff and faculty and their families), records about Patty and Anton Kirk, cultural and community event brochures, and various outside publications.

The fonds also consists of photographs documenting the 2 Millionth Volume event at the University of Manitoba Libraries and the interior of St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, taken by Ms. Dutka as part of her submission to CBC's "Seven Wonders of Canada" contest.

The fonds contains two oversize items: a calendar and a commemorative plaque.

This accession consists of two parts: 1/Victor Deneka’s architectural drawings for virtually all of the buildings – Ukrainian Catholic churches, administrative buildings, and social centres; Ukrainian-Canadian secular institutions; commercial and industrial buildings; and residential buildings – that he designed, as well as technical specifications, and legal and financial materials, for several major projects. It also includes some plans for buildings designed by other architects. 2/ Materials collected by Deneka for his unfinished project on Ukrainian-Canadian church architecture. These include photographs, photo sheets and display boards, photo transparencies, postcards and textual materials.

The fonds consists of the records of John and Irene Melnyk, as well as the records of Eugenia (Ievheniia) and Stefan Sytnyk, Irene’s parents. Both John and Irene and Eugenia and Stefan were very active in the Ukrainian community in Winnipeg and beyond.

The fonds is separated into three series and multiple sub-series. The first series contains the records of Irene and John Melnyk and is organized into eight sub-series.

The second series contains the records of Eugenia and Stefan Sytnyk, Irene Melnyk’s parents. The records reflect Eugenia’s deep involvement in a number of Ukrainian Canadian national and women’s organizations, as well as in the creation of the Ukrainian national school in Winnipeg. This series is organized into six sub-series.

The third and final series is the audio/visual and photograph collection, and consists of 2 audio cassette tapes, 2 video cassette tapes, and 6 photographs.
