The fonds contains the Tribune research collection (or `morgue' files) as created by the newspaper's staff consisting of personality files and subject folders of clippings from the 1930's to 1980. Many of the subject files have been microfilmed by the Archives for preservation purposes. The microfilm collection totals 167 reels. There are approximately 2,500,000 clippings (a few of the clippings may be from other newspapers such as the Free Press), divided over some 11,000 different subject categories and 60,000 personality folders. Together they provide ready-made collections of people and events in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and abroad. The collection is also well documented pictorially with over 500,000 photographs and negatives. A typewritten alphabetical index to the Tribune fonds is available.

The Public Markets Ltd. collection spans the existence of the company from 1912-1989. The collection now comprises 21 linear feet. This fonds offers a unique reference source to the agricultural history of the prairie west. The records contain detailed information on livestock transportation & sales, collective bargaining agreements, labour grievances & arbitration as well as environmental concerns in dealing with waste disposal.

The fonds consists of issues of the Winnipeg Tribune, some with annotations and notes made by Lillian Gibbons, programs, pamphlets, menus, and correspondence.

A1980-017, A1986-047: Contains research material used in writing her book Frederick Philip Grove (1973)*. Includes correspondence, interviews (tapes and typescripts), research notes and news articles. There are also copies of three articles on the Graphic Press plus a paper on "Friedrich Hebbel" delivered to the English Club in Simcoe, Ontario (1932). The fifteen tapes have been transferred to the Tape Collection, TC 2.

The Collection gives a glimpse of the rural Manitoba towns in which Frederick Grove lived and taught. The private interviews, although based on somewhat vague recollections, reflect the communities' attitude and feelings toward Grove, especially those of former students, and show a more personal, intimate aspect of Grove's rather unique character and lifestyle.

TC 24 (A1980-017): The tape collection consists of a description of the original project for linguistic study of the Scotch-Cree dialect called Bungi ; transcriptions of all tapes as made by the Indian History Film Project, and the spectrograms and analysis of Margaret Stobie's dialectal study.

The H. Clare Pentland Papers comprise a large part of the professional papers from Pentland's academic and public career, extending from his undergraduate studies (1938) to the posthumous publication of his doctoral thesis (1981). Included are student papers and reading and lecture notes from Brandon College, University of Oregon and University of Toronto, and many portions of drafts of the doctoral thesis. There is material relating to the history, administration and curriculum of the University of Manitoba Department of Economics, and to broader university and educational concerns.

Pentland's activity as an economic historian is represented both by major pieces of research either pursued independently'. as during his sabbatical leaves, or commissioned by government agencies; and by numerous scholarly articles, lectures, book reviews and the radio talks which demonstrate his sense of responsibility for public education. His practical involvement in social issues appears in the records of his work as arbitrator or conciliator in labour disputes, and of his intervention in the controversies arising from the Brandon Packers strike and the Crowe case at United College. Papers by his graduate students show Pentland as a critical but sensitive teacher.

Personal documentation is present only incidentally. The considerable correspondence is largely confined to professional business. The little that is primarily of personal interest has survived through "re-cycling" in drafts of other work and is to be traced through the index to the correspondence.

The fonds contains the constitution, membership, attendance and committee lists, notices of meetings, annual reports, papers, abstracts, questionnaires, correspondence, and minute books of the Scientific Club of Winnipeg.

File contains fellowships, grants, and correspondence.

This fonds consists of correspondence between Elinor Black and her friends, family, and colleagues; information about Black's education; medical papers and addresses given by Black; a copy of Black's unpublished book "The Professor and His Wife: The Stoughton Story"; photographs of Black, her friends, and her family; account books; diaries; sketchbooks; a scrapbook; and several small objects belonging to Black.

The fonds contains all of Charles Gordon's known literary manuscripts, his ministry records, his papers, writings and maps as a chaplain in the Canadian army in World War I, his papers as a labour negotiator in many Winnipeg labour disputes before and after the war, and various personal papers including those as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church. His literary papers consist of original manuscripts, publishers' correspondence, and abundant fan mail. The photographs are mainly of Gordon, the family cottage at Lake of the Woods, and some pictures of his ministry.

The collection primarily consists of photographs of the environment around the Norway House Indian Residential School. Several images taken of individuals on a Curtiss Model F aircraft display the aircraft that was used for the first air mail run to Rossville. The collection also contains a receipt and postcards.

The collection has one series titled William John Hills Collection.

The fonds consists of a photograph of a Rummely threshing machine owned by four families in the Neepawa area during the 1930s. The fonds also contains a clipping featuring a poem written by Frank Dudenhoffer in 1948 that was printed for the Centennial of Neepawa in 1983.

This fonds consists of a single letter to Ms. Jacqueline Lavallee from Mr. Len Evans (Minister of Community Services and Corrections for the Government of Manitoba), appointing her to the interim board of the Children’s Aid Society of Winnipeg on 14 October 1983.

The records detail the early interest in water research on the campus of the University of Manitoba, how the Centre came to be created, how it carried out its activities, and what the consequences of its activities were. The fonds includes terms of reference, research proposals, minutes, and correspondence related to the Centre's creation and operation. There are also progress reports, financial statements and general ledger accounts, along with a variety of published and unpublished reports, conference proceedings and discussion materials.

The fonds also contains Faculty Council minutes, budget information, faculty committee minutes, correspondence and reports, as well as material related to nursing training organized through the Division of Continuing Education. The tape collection consists of audio recordings of minutes of the Advanced Clinical Studies for Community Health Nurses Coordinating Committee and a presentation of new curriculum in Brandon, Manitoba.

This fonds consists of 3 booklets: a compilation of the Manitoba Indian Cultural Education Centre entitled “Manitoba Elders” (1981); the 25th Annual Report of the Indian and Metis Friendship Centre (1983), and the report and evaluation of the Aboriginal Bu$iness Women’s Organizing for Economic Development Workshop (11-13 Jan. 1985).

The collection consists of Turner's later known literary manuscripts, both novel and short story, and some personal papers.

The fonds consists of memoirs and letters from Ed Parker to Molly Rogers Brickman. He reminisces about growing up in Winnipeg's North End, attendance at Machray School and Wesley College, friends and fellow students who went on to have important careers, and being a Jewish student in a Protestant setting. The fonds also includes his memoirs relating to his time as a student at Wesley College and his tenure at the Winnipeg Tribune.

The collection contains textual records of the history of Local #702 in Abernethy, Saskatchewan. Also included are correspondence between the United Grain Growers' head office regarding the historical sketches.
