Ed Kleiman fonds

Marion Jean Lewis fonds

The fonds consists of seven series. The first series, personal, consists of Marion Lewis' curriculum vitae. The second series, correspondence, is divided into 4 sub-series. The first sub-series is comprised of various professional and work-related correspondence, both incoming and outgoing, created during the years 1944 through 1996. The correspondence in this series revolves mainly around blood grouping work. The next 3 sub-series revolve around correspondence generated due to an international group Lewis was a part of for many years, the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT). The third series is comprised of records generated by Dr. Bruce Chown. It is divided into two sub-series, the first being chronologically organized correspondence, and the second being research notes. Much of this series is restricted. The fourth series is comprised of reprints of over 140 published articles authored or coauthored by Lewis. The fifth series consists of unpublished articles and lectures given by Lewis throughout her career. The sixth series consists of research done by Lewis when she worked with Dr. Chown. The series is made up of three sub-series. The first contains research done on the blood groups of Hutterites and includes blood group genealogies. The second contains research on Aboriginal and Inuit blood types and contains blood group genealogies, field notes and lists of individuals. The third sub-series consists of miscellaneous research. This series is restricted.

The seventh series is PC 167. It consists of 156 photographs, 468 slides, including 30 glass lantern slides, and a reel-to-reel audio tape. Two of the photos are of Marion Lewis. The rest are photos of individuals whose blood was tested by Lewis and Chown in the 1950s and 1960s. Dr. Chown took most of the slides during a research trip to Alaska in 1960. The majority of them are of Alaskan wildflowers. Lewis used the other slides during her lectures and presentations. Dr. Chown used the lantern slides for research purposes in the 1950s and the reel-to-reel tape was used by Lewis to demonstrate laboratory methods. Some of the photographs are restricted. The eighth series is TC 106. It consists of two mini audiocassettes of a speech given by Lewis.

The collection consists of copies of letters to the Postmaster in Beaconsfield, Manitoba from John Boulton, dated January 20, 1925, to Jean Magne in Beaconsfield from John Boulton dated February 15, 1925, and to Paul Magne from John Boulton dated April 5, 1925. The letters discuss homesteading and homesteaders in Beaconsfield, Manitoba during the late nineteenth-century. A photocopy of a list of Beaconsfield postmasters is included. Also included in the collection is a photocopy of an autobiography by A. F. Willis (nee Boulton), the wife of John L. Willis, entitled The Days of My Pilgrimage [1972?].

The fonds consists of six films. The first film, labeled "Jack Frost", shows the Santa Claus Parade in what is believed to be Toronto during the 1950s (6:15). The second film depicts the Santa Claus Parade in Winnipeg in 1948 (5:45). The third film is of a young Indian girl performing a traditional dance routine during the 1960s (4:45). The fourth film shows a veterans parade in Winnipeg during the 1960s and the laying of wreaths (2:45). The fifth and sixth films are commercially produced films featuring clips of silent movie stars Harold Lloyd, "Fatty" Arbuckle and Charlie Chaplin (7:00), as well as musical performances by the Eton Boys titled "I Want a Girl," "Bicycle Built for Two," and "My Gal Sal" (7:50).

The fonds consists of two folders. Folder 1 contains four minute books for the Manitoba Federation of Agriculture, Arborg Chapter, Women's Section. The first minute book, beginning in 1932, details the activities of the United Farmer's Women of Manitoba of Arborg throughout the 1930s until their name change to the MFA. The second minute book chronicles the group's activities between 1940 and 1947. The third minute book is dated 1947-1950. The final book is dated 1953-1957. Topics covered in the minute books include the group's involvement in the community and various fundraising activities. The second folder contains assorted documents relating to the MFA Women's Section, Arborg Chapter. The folder includes assorted correspondence, newspaper clippings, certificates, and programmes.

The fonds consists of six files. The first file, formerly classified as MSS SC 52, consists of a variety of historical writings about Manitoba, as well as correspondence between Brandon Sun editor, C.W. Litchfield, and Winnipeg reporter, J. Fahey. The three files comprising MSS SC 53 contain papers and correspondence primarily pertaining to Manitoba politics and government during the first decade of the 20th century. Also included is a memorial from the legislature of the Province of Manitoba respecting the extension of the boundaries of the province. The fifth file, formerly classified as MSS SC 79, consists of correspondence between James P. MacDonald, MacDonald's lawyer Alex Arthur, Winnipeg grain merchant George Leary, Manitoba Premier, R.P. Roblin, and former Premier Thomas Greenway concerning the construction of a railroad between Northeastern Minnesota and Winnipeg. This series also includes a contract between J.P. MacDonald and George Leary, plus Manitoba Free Press clippings on the railroad. The last file, MSS SC 80, consists of records pertaining to a libel case against Manitoba Free Press editor, John W. Dafoe, concerning the Free Press's reporting of illegal payment of funds during the Boyne Marsh Drainage of September 1900.

This fonds consists of drafts of and correspondence relating to Sarah Klassen's poetry, short stories, and literary reviews, including material written as a student. Tearsheets of her published work are included. Material relating to two musical works based on Klassen's poetry is included in the collection.

The fonds consists of genealogical information about the Dixon and Baker families between 1851 and 1963. It also contains land title deeds, farm receipts, and photographs of agricultural scenes in the early twentieth century.

Margaret Oliver fonds

The fonds contains a scrapbook which covers events during Margaret Oliver's (nee Hammett) academic years from the end of grade 11 (1944) through her second year in a post-graduate laboratory technician program, as well as a few items in the years following (until 1956), most of which took place at the University of Manitoba. There is a trophy for athletic excellence in the Faculty of Science from 1946-1949.
The scrapbook also contains Margaret Oliver's Bachelor of Science diploma, and the accompanying folder holds her husband's (Thomas Oliver) Master of Science diploma from the same year (1949), as well as a 100th anniversary page for the University of Manitoba (taken from the Winnipeg Free Press in 1977).

The fonds consists of one wood scrapbook started by Trev Percy when the University of Manitoba chapter of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity was founded in 1958 to chronicle fraternity events. The unique wooden design was created by a member who was good at woodworking and was intended to be both visually distinct and allow additional pages to be added easily. The use of the scrapbook to keep track of TKE events gradually diminished in the early 1960s.

Seven Oaks General Hospital collection

This collection consists of 15 Hollinger boxes and 8 archival shoeboxes of material relating to the history of Seven Oaks General Hospital, including its construction and the construction of the hospital's Wellness Institute. Material relating to the construction and promotion of Seven Oaks and the Wellness Institute is also included in the collection. The majority of the photographs in this collection are of members of the hospital's staff and board members at events in and supporting the hospital. Also included in the collection are copies of the hospital's newsletters, VHS copies of local television programs featuring the hospital, and copies of speeches and other public relations material.

The fonds consists of black and white photographs, some of which were processed on card-stock paper or postcard. The photographs depict construction projects, settlement communities, rail roads, indigenous peoples, Charles and Anne Lindbergh, and images of northern landscapes. They document the process of mechanization and frontier expansion. In addition to the photographs is one newspaper clipping with a picture of the "Lindbergh Baby", relating to his kidnapping on March 1st, 1932. The photographs and postcards are stored in two leather bound photo albums with black-paper pages. Painted on the leather covers are an Indigenous chief, a teepee near pine trees, and the words "Photograph Album"€ and "Churchill".€

The digital records consist of one compact disc of scanned images of family members and another compact disc with scanned copies of minutes relating to the Sylvia Barber séances (A.10-82). There are 32 physical photographs and 277 digital photographs comprising the photograph collection.
