Rev. Michael Yurkiwsky Fonds

The collection consists of Yurkiwsky’s pastoral diaries and journals (1944-69); personal and professional correspondence (1944-1982); various parish/congregational records (1944-1969); liturgical and ritual service books; religious reference works; some sheet music; a small number of religious periodicals and newspaper clippings; a large collection of Sunday School lessons prepared for children and adults; the text of sermons prepared by Yurkiwsky during the late 1940s and early 1950s; articles and addresses written and occasionally published by Yurkiwsky; and a large variety of materials concerning Yurkiwsky’s seminary and university studies (transcripts, course notes, term papers and assignments) as well as lecture notes and reference materials for the courses he taught at the Faculty of Theology, St. Andrew’s College.

The first accession consists mainly of office files of the Manitoba Farm Bureau which were generated from 1965 to 1984. Also included are files produced prior to 1965 by the Manitoba Farm Bureau's predecessors. These files, arranged for the most part in their original chronological order, contain the following: by-laws, reports, submissions, minutes, news releases, and correspondence of the Manitoba Farm Bureau and its eighteen-member organizations. Also included are materials from outside related organizations such as L'Union Catholique des Cultivateurs, National Farmers Union, federations of agriculture of other provinces, etc. After the proper chronological sequencing, up to 1984, there are files which were not included in this manner. They cover other activities which took place during 1979 and 1980. A flood in the basement of the Manitoba Farm Bureau headquarters destroyed a number of earlier files. The five other accessions are largely unprocessed and consist of agricultural publications, files, reports, correspondence, by-laws, minutes, newsletters, press releases, memorandums, financial statements, resolutions, submissions, notices of meetings, mailing lists, press clippings, policies, and pamphlets and brochures regarding KAP and other agricultural organizations and issues.

A1993-092: This collection consists of numerous agricultural publications and one audio cassette tape concerning a camp music workshop.

A1996-032: This collection consists of files, reports, correspondence, and related materials pertaining to and documenting the history of the Keystone Agricultural Producers.

A1998-029: The collection consists of correspodence, by-laws, minutes, newsletters, press releases, memorandums, financial statements, resolutions, submissions, reports, notices of meetings, mailing lists, press clippings, policies, pamphlets and brochures, and periodicals regarding the Keystone Agricultural Producers and associated agricultural organizations and issues.

The collection includes personal papers from the three generations of Manitoba Pitblados: documents, correspondence, writings, scrapbooks. The most voluminous batch of correspondence consists of Edward's letters home from Europe during World War I and while holding his Rhodes Scholarship. There are letters from other family members, especially as arising from Isaac and Edward's interest in reconstructing the Pitblado genealogy. Materials of particular interest in the Charles Bruce segment relate to the Canadian Northwest in the 1880's, including the 1885 Riel Rebellion, and to the Presbyterian Church (notably St. Andrew's and Westminster, Winnipeg). The Isaac segment contains a number of drafts or notes for addresses, many to legal audiences. Both the Isaac and the Edward segments preserve source material for the history of Canadian sports.

The collection consists of eighteen black and white photographs of figures from the 1885 North-West Resistance. Fifteen of the photographs are originals (1869-1890) and three are photographs of photographs. Also included are four negatives of death certificates, the Charles Pelham Mulhavey book entitled The History of the North-West Rebellion of 1885, a telegram, a letter, and a photocopy.

The first component of the fonds, MSS 72 - Research Papers in Manitoba History Collection, contains 203 unpublished student research papers submitted to Professor Rea by his leading students between 1968 and 1987 on the broad subjects of Manitoba and western Canadian history. Topics include Manitoba and Winnipeg biographies, Manitoba provincial and Winnipeg municipal politics, labour history, ethnic history, social history, business history, Native history, agriculture history, educational history, fur trade history, Red River Settlement history, women's history, and medical history.

The second component of the fonds, MSS 73 - Winnipeg Labour History Interview Collection, contains transcriptions of ten oral histories conducted by Brian McKillop and Paul Barker in 1969-1970 with prominent Winnipeg political, labour, and social leaders of the 1920's and 1930's. These include an interview with Stanley Knowles, C.E. Simonite, Michael Harris, Mitch Sago, Tom Green, Fred Tipping, Gloria Queen-Hughes, Chester King, Norman Penner, and Marshall J. Gauvin.

The third component, MSS 195 - Harry Crowe Affair Research Collection, contains research material related to the Harry Crowe Affair (1958/59), and one on the University of Manitoba Land Grant. There are also three student papers in the collection.

A1990-030 contains McRobbie's poetic and historical endeavors. Included are his poetry, publications, activities and translations. Also included are articles and reviews on his work, and correspondence, which span more than three decades. This correspondence is with contacts, both foreign - mainly Hungarian, and domestic. His translations include novels by Laszlo Nagy, Miguel Angel Asturias and Maria Krisztinkovich, and poetry by Ferenc Juhasz, Gyorgy Petri and Miklos Radnoti to name but a few.

A2008-069 includes two series; correspondance and drafts of poetry.

Eli Mandel fonds

The fonds consists of biographical material, Eli Mandel's creative works of poetry and prose, and substantial correspondence between Mandel and several literary contemporaries all across Canada. Also included in the fonds are diaries, business correspondence, and lecture notes on the poetry, prose, and fiction of various writers. There are manuscript and typescript copies of most of his poems and critical works, frequently in many drafts, as well as drafts of his published anthologies. His formal articles are supplemented by notes for his lectures to university classes and other audiences. The correspondence includes exchanges of letters with many of his contemporary Canadian writers and scholars. There is a limited amount of material concerning members of Mandel's family, especially his first wife, Miriam (Minovitch) Mandel. The photograph collection consists of 59 photographs, 7 photo postcards, and 21 negatives. The tape collection consists of 4 audio cassettes and 13 audio reels, mostly of Mandel reading poetry.
