Accession consists of biographical information, correspondence, field records, journals, Ducks Unlimited publications, artwork collection, numerous paintings and designs of ducks and geese and other wildlife birds; photo-reproductions of artwork; and scrapbooks reflecting A. Shortt's graphic artwork, family photographs and biographical information depicting his life. There are also substantial photograph collection and video collection featuring an interview with Angus and Betsy Shortt conducted by Bev Pike for Manitoba Museum Archives and various Ducks Unlimited films.

Slides produced in the 1990s make up the this accrual and they document Arctic landscape, maps, Inuit culture including soapstone, bone, and wood carvings, wallhangings, clothing, printmaking, drawings, and etchings dated from prehistoric times into the 1990s. There are 1961 slides in this accrual.

The fonds is divided into twelve series created by donor: curriculum vitae; published articles; notes and correspondence for the translation of Rare and Commonplace Flowers; correspondence regarding Uncommon Wealth; correspondence and contributors’ submissions to the Carol Shields issue of Prairie Fire and to Carol Shields: The Arts of a Writing Life; reading scripts for unpublished lectures and addresses; an unpublished short story and unpublished novel; a file marked “miscellaneous” by donor, containing cards, certificates, poems and some correspondence; letters to donor from writers and critics; two colour photographs and copies of books written or edited by donor.

Significance: Donor’s career as a critic, editor, and translator and as an author of fiction is the primary focus of fonds, as is his professional contact with other academics, writers and critics. His career as a university administrator is alluded to through the text of his convocation and introductory addresses. Neither his practice and philosophy of teaching, nor his personal life, is apparent in this fonds.

Richard Condie fonds

The fonds is compiled into five series; whenever possible the material is arranged chronologically. Because animation cels, layouts and dope sheets vary in size and shape, this collection is stored in 1/2m archival boxes, over-size document boxes and map folders. The first series is comprised of biographical information, including Condie’s curriculum vitae. The second series contains Condie’s personal and professional correspondence. The third series is divided into six sub-series consisting of individual films: “Oh, Sure” (1972), “Getting Started” (1979), “Pigbird” (1982), “The Big Snit” (1985), “The Apprentice” (1991), and “La Salla” (1996). The material within these sub-series includes award notifications, film industry and newspaper reviews, exhibition programs, animation cels, backgrounds, layouts, and dope sheets, as well as publication and periodical information referring to Condie’s career in animation. Electronic photographs make up the fourth series as well as two physical photographs. A compilation video (VHS) of Condie’s work for the National Film Board of Canada concludes the series. The 2006 accession consists of approximately 100 painted cels from the film The Big Snit as well as 2 backgrounds created by Richard Condie's sister, Sharon Condie, for the same film.
