Dixon, Baker Family fonds

The fonds consists of genealogical information about the Dixon and Baker families between 1851 and 1963. It also contains land title deeds, farm receipts, and photographs of agricultural scenes in the early twentieth century.

The fonds contains a scrapbook which covers events during Margaret Oliver's (nee Hammett) academic years from the end of grade 11 (1944) through her second year in a post-graduate laboratory technician program, as well as a few items in the years following (until 1956), most of which took place at the University of Manitoba. There is a trophy for athletic excellence in the Faculty of Science from 1946-1949.
The scrapbook also contains Margaret Oliver's Bachelor of Science diploma, and the accompanying folder holds her husband's (Thomas Oliver) Master of Science diploma from the same year (1949), as well as a 100th anniversary page for the University of Manitoba (taken from the Winnipeg Free Press in 1977).

The fonds consists of one wood scrapbook started by Trev Percy when the University of Manitoba chapter of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity was founded in 1958 to chronicle fraternity events. The unique wooden design was created by a member who was good at woodworking and was intended to be both visually distinct and allow additional pages to be added easily. The use of the scrapbook to keep track of TKE events gradually diminished in the early 1960s.

The fonds consists of black and white photographs, some of which were processed on card-stock paper or postcard. The photographs depict construction projects, settlement communities, rail roads, indigenous peoples, Charles and Anne Lindbergh, and images of northern landscapes. They document the process of mechanization and frontier expansion. In addition to the photographs is one newspaper clipping with a picture of the "Lindbergh Baby", relating to his kidnapping on March 1st, 1932. The photographs and postcards are stored in two leather bound photo albums with black-paper pages. Painted on the leather covers are an Indigenous chief, a teepee near pine trees, and the words "Photograph Album"€ and "Churchill".€

The fonds contains textual, photographic and digital records. The textual records include handwritten and typewritten correspondence relating to séances and spirit communication between family members. The photographs are black and white and color images of members of the Campbell and Hamilton families. The digital records consist of one compact disc of scanned images of family members and another compact disc with scanned copies of minutes relating to the Sylvia Barber séances (A.10-82). There are 32 physical photographs and 277 digital photographs comprising the photograph collection.

Hamilton’s childhood home at Agincourt, Ontario in 1927. This collection contains 4 unique photographs that complement the Hamilton Family fonds photograph collection, including a formal portrait of T.G. Hamilton from ca. 1904 (annotated “TGH aged 31”), and three copies of a photograph of T.G. and Lillian Hamilton sitting with spirit photographer William Hope in England in 1932 (2 marked, 1 annotated), as well as the envelope which contained these and other materials. This collection also includes a CD of scanned versions of these 4 photographs and 1 annotated reverse side.

Louis Riel Letter to Pierre Lavallee

The letter is dated 1883 and is addressed to Monsieur Pierre Lavallée, Court Clerk of Marquette-East, Clerk and Treasurer of the Municipality of St. Francois Xavier. The letter congratulates Lavallée on his public position and encourages Lavallée to do his best to promote the interests of a favourable relationship between the Métis and French Canadians. Riel highlights the many qualities of the Métis and admirable qualities of French Canadians. Riel emphasizes the necessity of a good relationship with and the connections between the Métis and French Canadians.

The fonds consists of one diary with entries from 1898 to 1935. The diary begins with a brief resumé of Reverend Dugald McIntyre's life followed by daily entries. The diary includes details about his working life, traveling, and details about the progress of his children, Campbell and Marjorie. The letters to D. McIntyre from 1913 to 1935 include a letter from Ella M. Hunt, wife of W.M. Hunt, letters of sympathy, and letters to McIntyre from his son, Campbell, regarding his college graduation. One sheet of sermon notes is included.
