The material in the fonds range from 1948 to 2003. They reflect the life and career of Dian Cohen as a columnist, author, public speaker, educator, economic consultant, and television and radio commentator.

The fonds consists of correspondence and reports; photographs and certificates; audio cassettes and tapes; videotapes; computer diskettes; and clippings and other printed materials. Both the print and electronic formats are comprised of notes, drafts and scripts for news columns and commentaries on radio and television programs; interviews and transcriptions; speeches and addresses; essays, course outlines and lecture notes; briefs, submissions and reports of commissions of enquiry; briefing books on communications, the Canadian economy and other topics; and promotional materials.

This accession consists of seven series: Personal Information, Correspondence, Writings, Radio and Television, Board Membership, Miscellaneous Interests and Research, and Books. The first series contains material from the 1950s to 2013, consisting primarily of biographical information about Dian Cohen, various awards that she’s obtained over the years, day planners, and records created by and/or pertaining to members of her family, including her daughter, her ex-husband and his family. The second series contains various correspondence that Cohen has kept from 1958-2004; while some are personal, such as letters from her father, most are related to business or publishing. The third series contains Dian Cohen’s various written works and speeches from 1972-2003; most of the material in this series relates to the book “Net Results” and to speeches given at various events and conferences; in addition to the writings themselves, this series contains many related records such as reviews. The fourth series contains transcripts and administrative papers relating to Cohen’s various radio and television productions such as “Money, Power and Politics”, as well as proposals for other productions from 1978-2003. The fifth series contains records related to the various businesses and organizations that Cohen was a board member of from 1990-2011 such as Monsanto Canada and the International Institute for Sustainable Development. In the case of Monsanto, in addition to fiduciary records, the sub-series contains research done by Cohen and Guy Stanley which sought to use Monsanto’s business model as a new standard for emulation. Finally, the last two series contain her books and material on various other interests of Cohen from 1958 to 1996 including articles she’s collected and guides to hone her skills as a writer and interviewer. The accession also consists of Photograph, Audio-Visual, and Electronic Record Collections.

Dorothy Livesay fonds

The collection consists of photographs of Livesay, family members, friends, and fellow writers. There are photographs of family homes and other places where Livesay has lived and worked, notably Manitoba, British Columbia, and Zambia. In the listing, identifications transcribed from the photographs themselves are placed within double quotation marks. Many of the photographs are held also as slides and negatives, a few in slide or negative form only: the notations "P," "S"' and "N" beside the item number indicate the formats (Print, Slide, Negative). All negatives are stored in Box #4. Slides are stored separately in the slides cabinet.

The collection consists of biographical material, correspondence, drafts, and versions of Livesay's writings of all genres. Over half of the Livesay collection consists of papers that are strictly non-literary yet directly related to her life and work. This material is divided into five categories: autobiographical, biographical, bibliographical, business papers regarding her writing and her personal business papers. The remainder of the manuscript collection consists of plays, reviews, poems, short stories, essays, talks and addresses, and memoirs.

Ed Schreyer fonds

The fonds consists of eleven series, the first of which is compiled of Biographical Information. The next seven are compiled in chronological order. The second covers Schreyer’s time teaching at Beausejour Collegiate, pursuing his own academic career as well as lecturing at St. Paul’s College. It contains many term papers and course notes. The third are his files from two terms as an M.L.A. The fourth depicts his terms as an M.P. These files have been maintained in the filing order that Schreyer kept them using his system of record keeping. The fifth and largest series covers Schreyer’s tenure as Premier of Manitoba and is comprised of daily journals, election correspondence, Hydro Inquiries, meeting minutes & speeches. The sixth series documents the year that he was Leader of the Opposition. The seventh and other large series comprises Schreyer’s five-year term as Governor General of Canada. It consists of correspondence, reports, speeches, itinerary of his many visits and appointment books. The eighth series covers Schreyer’s time as High Commissioner to Australia and includes diaries, correspondence, and speeches. The ninth series is personal material including scrapbooks and guest books from many personal and professional occasions. The last two series are the Photo Collection and the Tape Collection.

The collection reflects the work of Eli Mandel as a creative writer and as an academic scholar. There are manuscript and typescript copies of most of his poems and critical works, frequently in many drafts, as well as drafts of his published anthologies. His formal articles are supplemented by notes for his lectures to university classes and other audiences. The correspondence includes exchanges of letters with many of his contemporary Canadian writers and scholars. There is a limited amount of material concerning members of Mandel's family, especially his first wife, Miriam (Minovitch) Mandel.

The fonds consists of 2,484 items, nearly all of which are photocopies of articles, documents, correspondences, photo groups or artwork that the donor has acquired from various magazines, newspapers, books, associates and other archives and libraries. The vast majority of the collection relates to “Lost Horizon”, with a much smaller, though still significant, percentage relating to "Helen of Troy". Over 150 of the items fall outside the scope of either of the two aforementioned movies, being a collection of writings, photographs and artwork relating to Hollywood and the movie industry in general, as well as California travel information and info on Tibet. The fonds is divided into the series “Lost Horizon” articles, “Lost Horizon” documents and research, personal effects, "Lost Horizon” publicity stills, “Lost Horizon” production photographs, “Lost Horizon” negatives, “Lost Horizon” art, “Helen of Troy”, related interests, oversized items and "Lost Horizon" microfilm. The "Lost Horizon" articles series contains newspaper, magazine and journal articles, as well as book excerpts, related to various "Lost Horizon" subjects, such as production, reception and cast and crew biographies. The “Lost Horizon” documents and research series contains various primary sources such as interviews, scripts, theatre programs and legal documents. The personal effects series contains content related to Ely Bronstein’s personal life such as correspondences and ephemera, though the vast majority of this material relates to “Lost Horizon”. The next two series contain photographs of “Lost Horizon”, both publicity stills – scenes from the movie blown into photos – and production photos – pictures taken of the production processes or of members of the production crew. The negatives relating to “Lost Horizon” are reproduced photographic negatives, while the artwork contains movie posters and concept art. The “Helen of Troy” series contains material relating to that film, including articles, documents and publicity stills. The related interests series contains various articles and pictures related to Hollywood and the movie industry, as well as information about California and Tibet. All oversized items requiring larger boxes are included in the oversized items series. Lastly, the "Lost Horizon" microfilm series contains pressbooks and visual representations of the film on 35mm microfilm. The items are all paper photocopies of their original formats, with the exceptions of a few original correspondences, a few original newspaper clippings, the negatives and the microfilm.

The fonds consists of 895 items, most of the materials are photocopies of articles, documents, correspondences, photo groups or production stills that have been acquired from various magazines, newspapers, books, other film buffs. The vast majority of the collection relates to “Lost Horizon”, with a much smaller focus on the writer of the novel, James Hilton, and the star of the film Ronald Colman and some on film producer Frank Capra. The fonds is divided into the series Correspondences about the “Lost Horizon”, “Lost Horizon” biographies about James Hilton and Ronald Colman, "Lost Horizon” production photos, The "Lost Horizon" articles series contains newspaper, magazine and journal articles, as well as book excerpts, related to various "Lost Horizon" subjects, such as production, reception, cast and crew biographies and articles discussing James Hiltons other works. The visual media related to “Lost Horizon” has films based on other works by James Hilton or starring Ronald Colman, there is also information on Frank Capra’s life and the American film institute awards ceremony from 1984 that Capra won an award from. The audio associated to “Lost Horizon” series contains various primary sources such as interviews, theatre programs, soundtracks, prayers, and news reports. The next series contain photographs of “Lost Horizon”, production photos – pictures taken of the production processes or of members of the production crew, there is also stills taken of the and slides that were the originals for the stills from the movie. These slides also contain other stills from the movie along with production photos, advertising and publicity stills. All oversized items requiring larger boxes are included in the oversized items series.
