The A12-41 accession of the fonds consists of legal documents and correspondence relating to the Robertson v. Thomson Corp. class action lawsuit, as well as awards, portraits and other correspondence. The A12-133 accession consists of correspondence and a review of "A Terrible Beauty", a periodical on Heather Robertson and a National Magazine Awards Booklet, plus awards and portraits. The 15-005 is comprised of nine series, including: biographical & personal information; literary career; research material; publishing contracts; correspondence; areas of interest; photographs; tapes & electronic records.

The papers in the fonds range from the early part of the 1950s to the 1990s and reflect the career of Dr. Helen P. Glass as a nursing educator, researcher, practitioner, and administrator at the provincial, national and international levels.

The fonds consists of vitae, biographical sketches, photograph, professional correspondence, materials relating to awards, speeches and addresses, conferences presentations, drafts and copies of publications, university course materials, and papers about consultations and review board activities. Her contribution to professional nursing and health associations - provincial, national and international - constitute a large portion of the fonds. These include the Canadian Nurses Association, Canadian Nurses Foundation, Victorian Order of Nurses, Canadian Red Cross, Canadian University Nursing Students Association, Canadian Association of University Schools of Nursing, International Nurses Association, World Health Organization, International Council of Nurses, National League of Nursing, Royal College of Nursing, National Federation of Nurses’ Unions, National Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses, Manitoba Educational Research Council, Manitoba Health Research Council, and Manitoba Nursing Research Institute. Correspondents include Ginette Rogers and Monique Begin.

Also included is the background work on her “Study of the Use of Clinical Facilities by Nursing Students in the Province of Manitoba,” and a manuscript copy of the assembled study. The notes include proposals, applications for project renewal, reports, interviews, correspondence, and data analysis. The study was published in 1977 by Dr. Glass, Patricia Zimmer, and Carolyn Vogt, and was funded by a Health and Welfare Canada National Health Grant.

The report includes an autographed typescript letter from Premier John Bracken, Winnipeg, dated May 11, 1925.

The fonds consists mainly of books with attached photographs and correspondence. All loose inserts were removed. The material that could not safely be removed remains in the volumes in the Rare Book Collection and is noted briefly in the listing appended to the register. The donated library comprises some 425 titles. The majority are Canadian works, some historical or descriptive, with emphasis on the Maritimes. The remainder are largely works of or about Charles Dickens. The material taken from these volumes consists of letters and notes, press clippings, programs, and other memorabilia.

The Henry Kalen fonds is a veritable photographic A-Z of Manitoba culture, geography, architecture, and industry with a significant representation of western provinces and Ontario as well.

The Henry Kalen fonds has been organized into 3 categories comprising 28 series. The textual records (MSS 256) consist of reference questions and correspondence, biographical/miscellaneous material, books, and indexes. The photograph collection (PC 219) is comprised of prints of jobs, prints, small prints, postcard collection, postcards, black and white postcard collection, postcard album collection, album prints, slides by subject, slides of old Ontario/Saskatchewan/Montreal, etc., stock slides, slides by chronological order, miscellaneous slides, slides of large projects, largeformat transparenices, negatives, job files, architectural negatives, unnumbered job negative files, photographs of Henry Kalen's "One-Man Show" at the Winnipeg Art Gallery (1966), transparencies, negatives and miscellaneous slides, oversized prints, and oversized transparencies. The Hiebert, Brown Family fonds represents stories, experiences and contributions of three generations of a Mennonite-Northumberland family painting a vivid picture of life in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the first half of the 20th century. The fonds consists of biographical information on all members of the Hiebert, Brown family, their correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, and newspaper clippings. Also included are Paul Hiebert's audio-recordings and a manuscript, "Willows Revisited" (1970); Wallace Brown's recollection of the Winnipeg General Strike (June 21, 1919); Catherine Brown's genealogical research material into the Hiebert-Brown family's roots; and material pertaining to Catherine Brown's cousin, Erdman Penner, a cartoonist for the Walt Disney Company from the 1930s to the 1950s.

During the Great War of 1914-1919, organizations formed in Canada to support the war effort as well as contending with the human casualties. Included in these organizations were women’s projects such as sewing circles and other social functions to help incorporate community members while large segments were abroad. Humanitarian organizations like the Red Cross played a pivotal role in engaging members of the community at home to service those abroad. The fonds contains two letters of internal correspondence written in 1918 from The Canadian Red Cross Society and the Patriotic Sewing Circle. Both letters are type-written on letterhead and are in good condition.

The fonds consists of two series: textual records and photographs. The textual records series is comprised of two letters mounted on cardboard and signed by Dwight D. Eisenhower as Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force, photocopies of two maps of England and Germany, a four-part typewritten memoir of the donor's war-time experiences, and a partial list providing captions for the photographic series. The photographic series is comprised of 39 monochrome photographs (each 16.5 x 23 cm) taken and printed by the donor. Each photograph is mounted on 29 x 36 cm card-stock on which brief captions have been written in pencil.

The scope and content of this collection is best described in the appraisal report of the National Archival Appraisal Board, dated January 20, 1983. The following is a quotation from that report:

"This collection will be of particular value to anyone studying social, political, land economic conditions in Winnipeg, especially from the mid-twenties to the mid-forties. In addition to chronicling events in that city, the papers trace the activities of prominent community leaders and the various associations of which Speechly was an active member. The unpublished autobiography provides a detailed account of the life and career of an active and vigorous civic leader.

The papers include correspondence, photographs, published articles, notes, pamphlets, and memorabilia and an unpublished autobiography of a prominent Winnipeg doctor over a period of almost four decades (1925-1961). The 1,329 letters to his daughter (Margaret Stansfield) written between 1925 and 1943, provide an interesting and relatively detailed chronicle of events and prominent people in Winnipeg. The collection is in excellent physical condition and occupies 75 cm."
