Human Genetics was a division of Pediatrics (and also had a place in Anatomy) until 1982 when it became a full dept (letter of Sept 12, 1984 states that "Proposal to Establish a Department of Human Genetics in the Faculty of Medicine" was approved by the Genetics Faculty at a special meeting held on Wed, Sept 5, 1984" and that this was then to be submitted to Dept Heads Council, Faculty Council, the Senate, and the University Grants Commission. Senate approved the creation of the Dept Feb 6, 1985 and University Grants Commission by 10 July 1985.
The department of biochemistry and molecular biology and the department of human genetics merged in 1997/98.
