Biographical history
Elise Swerhone is a Winnipeg-born director, producer and writer of multiple dramatic and documentary films and television series or episodes. Beginning her career in the 1970s, Swerhone’s filmography credits include “Tommy Douglas: Keeper of the Flame”, “Leo Mol in Light and Shadow”, “Me, My Brother and My Father’s Van Gogh” and “Restitution”. Her work has also been featured on the CBC’s “The Family Pictures” (“Miss Manitoba” and “Now & Then”), and “Inside Stories” (“The Mayor of Odessa”). Her work has also been featured by National Geographic, HGTV, Global TV, the National Film Board, Discovery US, and Vision.
Swerhone has also held various positions throughout her career, including president of Riverain Productions, a Manitoba-based production company. An alumni of the National Screen Institute’s DramaLab, she has also acted as program manager and co-program manager for the NSI Aboriginal Documentary course.
She has been nominated for multiple Gemini Awards, including one for “Mayor of Odessa” (Best Director of a dramatic program or miniseries) and one for her film on Tommy Douglas.
