Faculty and School councils are governed by the Faculty and School Council General Bylaw, which requires the establishment of a Council composed of the President; the Vice-President designated by the President; the Dean or Director; Full-time Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers, Instructors I and II and Senior Instructors holding academic rank in the Faculty or School; a minimum of one full-time support staff member; a minimum of three students registered in the Faculty or School; and such others as may be authorized by the individual Faculty or School Bylaws.
Each Faculty or School Council conducts meetings and proceedings according to their needs and may appoint committees and councils with respect to matters of the Faculty or School; elect its representatives on the Senate; make and administer regulations with respect to the attendance, conduct and progress of students who are registered in the Faculty or School; prepare and publish timetables; and consider and determine appeals by students from a decision of a member of the academic staff of the Faculty or School.
Faculty and School Councils may also make recommendations regarding conferring of titles; the organizational structure of the unit; any curriculum, instructional, exam, degree, and course changes; graduate admission requirements; the discipline and academic standing of undergraduates; and various other practices relating to the academic conditions of the Faculty or School.
