Notice biographique
Dian Cohen (nee Nusgart) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1932. Before attending the University of Toronto, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1956 in Economic History and Political Science, Cohen worked in London, England as a foreign exchange clerk. She furthered her education at McGill University where she studied Banking, Public Policy, and Econometrics until 1963. Cohen then embarked on a long career as an economics commentator on television and radio, first with the CBC and then with CTV. In 1968 she commenced a long-term position as a syndicated newspaper and magazine columnist on personal money management, economic, and business affairs. Cohen would later publish several popular books on economic matters. She parlayed her talent of making economics understandable to the general public into a successful career as an educator on several academic radio programs and as an economics consultant and public speaker. Cohen also volunteered her time to several organizations, serving on numerous boards often as Director. Cohen's talents have been recognized over the years with the many awards and recognitions she has received including the Order of Canada in 1993.

Portée et contenu
The 1997 and 2004 accessions consist of 11.2 m of textual records divided into eight series and fifteen sub-series. The eight major series of the fonds are personal information, academic career material, correspondence, research, writings, radio and television work, consulting work, and miscellaneous material. In addition, there are 111 computer diskettes (5 1/4" and 3 1/2" floppies), 359 audio cassettes, 1 reel-to-reel audio tape, 197 video cassettes, 1 film reel, 33 photographs, 13 slides, and 1 negative comprising the photograph, tape, and electronic records collections.
The 2013 accession consists of six series: personal information, correspondence, writings, radio and television, board membership, and miscellaneous interests and research. The first series contains material from the 1950s to 2013, consisting primarily of biographical information about Dian Cohen, various awards that she’s obtained over the years, day planners, and records created by and/or pertaining to members of her family, including her daughter, her ex-husband and his family. The second series contains various correspondence that Cohen has kept from 1958-2004. While some are personal, such as letters from her father, most are related to business or publishing. The third series contains Dian Cohen’s various written works and speeches from 1972-2003. Most of the material in this series relates to the book “Net Results” and to speeches given at various events and conferences. In addition to the writings themselves, this series contains many related records such as reviews. The fourth series contains transcripts and administrative papers relating to Cohen’s various radio and television productions such as “Money, Power and Politics”, as well as proposals for other productions from 1978-2003. The fifth series contains records related to the various businesses and organizations that Cohen was a board member of from 1990-2011 such as Monsanto Canada and the International Institute for Sustainable Development. In the case of Monsanto, in addition to fiduciary records, the sub-series contains research done by Cohen and Guy Stanley which sought to use Monsanto’s business model as a new standard for emulation. Finally, the last series contains various other interests of Cohen from 1958 to 1996 including articles she’s collected and guides to hone her skills as a writer and interviewer.
