The Department of Immunology, the first in Canada, was founded in 1969. Since the early 1990s, its focus has been on the establishment of a multidisciplinary program in Immunology, encompassing basic and clinical biomedical scientists with expertise in a broad range of immunological topics.
Immunology was approved as a dept by all parties up to & including the University Grants Commission before June 10, 1968. Alec Sehon was appointed its head May 1, 1969; it had previously been in Bacteriology (Medical Microbiology) and was in that dept's title 1924-61
