Petro Danyliuk was born on March 31, 1923 in Seliatyn, a village in Bukovyna, Ukraine. He finished his secondary education in Seliatyn and post-secondary education in the Czech town of Podebrady (1943-1944). He immigrated to Canada in 1947 and received his Canadian citizenship in 1958. Upon his arrival in Canada, Danyliuk quickly became very involved with the Ukrainian community. He was editor of Holos Molodi (1948-1953) and a distributor of the journal Bukovyna published in Philadelphia (1953-1957). Danyliuk was also a contributor to many Ukrainian newspapers: New Path, Canadian Farmer, and Ukrainian Voice. He served on many committees of Ukrainian national organizations, including secretary of the Ukrainian National Youth Organization and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. In 1970, he became one of the heads of the Carpathian Credit Union and held that position for eight years. From 1971 to 1977, he served as secretary on the executive board of the Ukrainian Fraternal Society. He was also editor of Ukrainian Voice from 1971 to 1989, when he resigned.
His biggest contribution to the Ukrainian community is his collection of Ukrainica, rare calendars, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, books, and correspondence of various Ukrainian institutions and organizations in Canada: including the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League, Ukrainian Canadian Committee - KUK, Ukrainian National Federation (UNO), Organizations of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), the Canadian Ukrainian Youth Association, and the Ukrainian Fraternal Society.
As a member of the executive board of many Ukrainian organizations, Petro Danyliuk inherited material from the previous community organizer and educator, Ivan Syrnyk (Syrnick), who was also a member of the executive board of the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League, Ukrainian Canadian Committee, Consistory of Ukrainian Greek-Orthodox Church of Canada, St. Andrew's College, and editor of Ukrainian Voice (1947-1970).
