History

Activities of the malting and brewing industries in the barley improvement were formalized in 1948 when the Barley Improvement Institute (now the Brewing and Malting Research Institute) was established to cooperate and assist, financially and otherwise , in the development and testing of improved barley varieties and to disseminate factual information on the production, improvement, marketing and processing of malting barley.
